前綴ac-同ad-.詞根cent，唱，同chant，詠唱。字面意思指說(shuō)話像唱歌，后指口音。后指先說(shuō)后唱，強(qiáng)調(diào)。accent重音，口音=古希臘語(yǔ)跟現(xiàn)代希臘語(yǔ)不一樣，它是一種具有樂(lè)調(diào)重音的語(yǔ)言（singsong language）。公元前1世紀(jì)一位希臘作家用一個(gè)意為song的詞來(lái)指其母語(yǔ)的重音。一千多年以后中世紀(jì)語(yǔ)法學(xué)家把該詞移譯為拉丁語(yǔ)，作accentus，其字面意義是song added to speech，它派生于拉丁語(yǔ)cantus（相當(dāng)于英語(yǔ)song或者chant）。英語(yǔ)中意為“重音”、“口音”的accent一詞即源于此。
